The two-year post will focus on developing new income streams, expanding events and activities, and increasing visitor engagement at Pleasley Pit. The role will also help the Trust to build stronger partnerships, encourage volunteering, and ensure that the site’s unique blend of industrial heritage and green space continues to benefit local people.
Pleasley Pit is one of the last remaining colliery sites in the East Midlands, uniquely combining industrial heritage with thriving green spaces. The site tells the story of coal mining communities, while also offering a haven for nature and wellbeing activities.
This funding marks an exciting new chapter for Pleasley Pit Trust, enabling them to diversify activities, grow community involvement, and lay the foundations for long-term sustainability. By investing in people, place, and nature, the project will help the Trust to deliver more opportunities for health, well-being, and learning across Bolsover and the surrounding areas
Without this funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, made possible thanks to National Lottery players opportunities to build resilience, grow community engagement and secure the Trust’s long-term sustainability would be limited. This project will ensure that the voices of our community are heard, our heritage is celebrated, and the site continues to be a place where history, people and nature come together.
This project will enable Pleasley Pit Trust to increase its capacity through the appointment of a Development Worker, helping to safeguard the site’s heritage while ensuring it remains relevant and accessible for future generations. By developing new income streams, expanding our programme of events and activities, and supporting volunteer engagement, the role will directly contribute to our organisational sustainability. The project will protect and share our unique heritage, while also promoting environmental responsibility through nature-based activities and sustainable practices. It will create more inclusive opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved, whether through volunteering, learning, or simply visiting our café and enjoying a cuppa. In the long-term, the project will build skills and resilience across our PPT community, ensuring that Pleasley Pit continues to thrive as a place where people and nature can be together.
Deborah Bramwell, Chief Operating Officer from Pleasley Pit Trust said, “We are absolutely delighted to receive this support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and would like to thank National Lottery players. This grant will make a huge difference to the future of Pleasley Pit, helping us to grow as an organisation and create even more opportunities for people to connect with our heritage and green spaces; this means we can continue to protect this special place and ensure it remains at the heart of our community for generations to come.”
